Fed Hikes Interest Rates Again

On November 1, 2005, the Federal Reserve Bank Fed raised interest rates one quarter of a percentage point. Since Summer 2004, outgoing Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan has been raising interest rates on a regular basis since hitting its low point of just 1 . Now at 4 , Greenspan is expected to raise rates two more times before exiting office in January 2006. Will the higher rates stave off inflation. Will the new Chairman continue Greenspan s incremental adjustments upward or will he let rates level off. Speculation is rampant but there is one thing you can know for sure: you will pay more for many of life s expenses. A rate hike by the Fed means that you will likely pay more for something including: Credit cards. Not known for showing much restraint, you can bet credit card companies will continue to jack up interest rates except for their best customers. Mortgage rates. Holders of fixed rate mortgages are fine, but those with variable rate mortgages will pay more. A lot more if they haven t felt previous rate hikes and their mortgages are due for an upward adjustment. More money to pay mortgages means less money for disposable items. If you need a new car and can still find zero...

Is The Sonoma Diet Plan Right For You

Now that the low carb diet craze has started to fizzle out many are looking for a diet plan that is more compatible with their lifestyle. One of the most common complaints of people who are following diets is the bland taste of approved foods. To give people a safe and effective way to lose weight, eat healthy foods that taste great and are packed with flavor Dr. Connie Guttersen developed the Sonoma Diet. The Sonoma Diet is loosely based on the Mediterranean Diet with some modifications and an emphasis on 10 foods known as the power foods. These foods include a select group of fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains. These foods are not only good for you but taste great, and according to the diet plans creator they give you a lot nutritional value per calorie. In addition to teaching about healthy food choices the Sonoma Diet discusses portion management with a variety of techniques. Similar to other modern diet plans the Sonoma Diet Plan has three phases which are known as waves. Wave one is the most nutritionally restrictive phase with the smallest amount of food groups allowed. Sugar intake during this stage is dramatically reduced to wean the body off of it s sugar dependency...

Saving Energy In The Kitchen

The kitchen, with all its appliances, gadgets and heat, is a real hotspot for potential energy saving. As the oven uses the most energy and creates a vast amount of heat while cooking foods, it is a good place to start. For instance, when baking cookies use two trays. While one is in the oven baking, the other one is prepped with raw cookies ready to replace the tray in the oven with no wasted heat and some time saved. When we bake bread we also fill the oven with foil wrapped potatoes. The potatoes can be stored in the fridge without the foil and used throughout the week in a myriad of recipes, or as a side dish. This method can be applied to a menu plan in that if you are baking one dish, try to include a side dish that is baked as well. By turning off the oven a minute or two before the dish is done, the residual heat will finish the cooking. When done with the oven, open the door to allow any leftover heat to warm the home. Pasta cooking water can be left out until it has completely cooled so that the heat and moisture are released back into the air. Before pulling the plug, consider leaving hot dishwater and bath water until it cools. Why pay to heat up your sewer pipes. When...

Six Bad Habits

Your bad habits limit your success in life. Below are six of the worst, with suggestions on how to break them. It is great if you can retrain your mind and develop good habits too, but just getting rid of bad habits is a great start to a better life. Waiting for opportunity. Should I be waiting for my ship to come in, while others are out there building ships. Waiting doesn t invite opportunities - work does. Begin searching out opportunities and creating opportunities. Training your mind to see them can be as simple as looking for them. Then train yourself to take advantage of them by always taking some small step the moment you recognize an opportunity. Short-term thinking. I talked to a man who paid 700 per month in rent when a nicer place was available for 550. Why did he do it. The 700 apartment required no deposit, but the cheaper place required a 450 deposit, so he would have had to save 1,000 instead of 700 to move in. Due to his short-term thinking, he now pays 1,800 more for rent each year. Though short term thinking got this man into his situation, and he didn t have the 300 extra, he still could have gone to the pawn shop and raised the money. It would have cost very...
